Seattle and its surrounding communities make-up, arguably, the epicenter of American game development. Here you will find the headquarters and engineering offices of over 200 companies including Bungie, Nintendo of America and Xbox.
When one of the world’s best-known electronic game producers needed a dependable data center for one of its business segments, part of their international operations, it commissioned Colocation Northwest to break ground on a state-of-the-art data center wing, an expansion of our Bellevue facility. During construction, the pre-existing data center was upgraded as well. The footprint grew from 2,500 square feet to 4,300 square feet, and electrical power capacity from 250 kilowatts to 1.25 megawatts, a five-fold expansion.
The new wing features key card and fingerprint biometric security. Inside you will find a raised floor, sealed hot air aisle, and down-flow cooling from a closed loop chemical refrigerant system. Both the HVAC and UPC systems are independent.
During construction, the entire data center upgraded to the American Fire Protection Group FM-200 gaseous agent high-speed fire suppression system. It will extinguish flammable liquid and electrical fires in less than 10 seconds. Should a fire break out, the FM-200 greatly reduces the potential for excessive damage, high repair costs and prolonged downtime.
Only one company could provide the desired combination of a custom buildout and nearby location. Key to their selection was Colocation Northwest’s willingness to work with the Bellevue municipal government on the client’s behalf. Our management of the permitting and environmental oversight processes relieved the data center user from having to navigate unfamiliar territory. Our administration of the construction meant the client only dealt with one entity, Colocation Northwest, and not the numerous contractors and subcontractors required for construction.
Colocation Northwest delivered a state-of-the-art data center wing in which this game developer deployed their equipment. On delivery day the client’s IT team visited the Bellevue data center where each employee registered for biometric security and took a look at their new data center. Colocation Northwest operates the power and cooling, plus additional support features. The game developer client maintains its hardware inside the cabinets.
No matter the size of your IT project, speak to Colocation Northwest. Given that we have the capability to construct entire data centers for clients, certainly your project falls within our expertise.
